About

Peter Kamstra is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Swinburne Social Innovation Research Institute. Prior to joining Swinburne University, he completed his PhD exploring the geographies of risk perceptions using mixed methods Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the University of Melbourne.

Peter’s innovative research combines spatial analytics and qualitative data to inform community health and resilience challenges. He has a strong track record of research in the interdisciplinary areas of Natural Hazards, Geography, Risk Reduction, Health and Communication.

He has been using spatial analytics and ‘big data’ in partnership with multiple social purpose organisations to address Australia’s contemporary community health problems. His work produces applied insights that can be used to improve community mental health services, bushfire emergency response and drowning prevention.
